Galta

A little help.

Install, connect and get back to your canvas.

Nothing appears after installing

Open an ordinary website, then choose Galta from the browser’s extensions menu. Browser settings, the Chrome Web Store and other protected pages do not allow page collection. Your canvas can still open in its own tab.

Install the extension in each browser profile where you want to use Galta. Different profiles keep separate local canvases.

The Mac app is ready, but the canvas is not connected

First install the extension from the download page. Open Galta from Applications and choose Connect browser. Return to that browser profile and open Galta again. In canvas Settings, open the connection you want and choose Check connection if it is offered.

If Galta reports incompatible versions, update the extension and the Mac app. Chrome manages extension updates; Check for Updates in the Mac app updates its runtime. Reload the page and reopen the canvas after updating.

Which account do I need?

Canvas and Collection
No account required. Your work stays in this browser profile.
Chat in Galta
Use the Codex sign-in offered in Settings. Your Codex account supplies the AI access.
Codex or Claude Code
Use that agent’s own account. Follow the connection instructions under Work in Codex or Claude Code. Chat there and see the changes on your canvas. Waiting for an agent is normal until it connects.
Generation
Connect a provider account in Settings. Generation is billed by that provider; a Codex or Aha Labs sign-in does not include it.
Aha Labs
Optional identity shared with Aha Labs apps. It does not gate the canvas or unlock an AI service.

What is shared with the agent?

The whole canvas informs its work. A selection points at what you mean; it does not limit the context to those elements. When you give an agent access to a page, it can read that page for the task. Review the page and canvas before asking it to work with sensitive information.

Generated web pages run separately from Galta’s controls and can load external resources. Those resources have their own privacy practices. See Galta’s privacy notice for storage and service details.

Back up a canvas

Canvas data belongs to this browser profile. Removing the extension or clearing its data can erase it. Time Machine lets you revisit earlier canvas versions; it is not a backup outside the browser.

  1. Open the canvas you want to keep. Let any work you want included finish.
  2. Click the canvas name at the top, open the three-dot Current canvas actions menu, then choose Export canvas.
  3. Keep the downloaded .galta file somewhere safe. Repeat for each canvas you want to back up.

The file includes that canvas’s artwork, embedded media, history and readable conversations. It does not include unsent drafts, sign-ins, provider keys or the Mac’s working folders. Collection is separate: drag references you want to keep onto a canvas before exporting it.

Restore or move your work

Different browsers, browser profiles and development or store installations keep separate canvases. Signing in to Aha Labs does not sync them.

  1. Export each canvas from the original installation using the steps above.
  2. In the destination, click the canvas name, open Current canvas actions, then choose Import canvas and select the .galta file.
  3. Check the artwork, media, Time Machine and conversations in the imported canvas. Import creates a separate canvas and keeps existing canvases intact.
  4. Keep the original installation and export until you have checked every canvas you need. Connect agents and provider accounts separately where needed; imported conversations do not resume the original agent session.

If import reports an unsupported version, update Galta in the destination first. If the file is incomplete or damaged, keep it and export again from the original installation if it is still available. A failed import leaves the current canvas unchanged.

Remove Galta

Export and check your canvases before removing the extension through your browser’s extensions manager. Removing the Mac app alone does not erase browser canvases, local agent workspaces or generated files.

To remove a saved generation key, disconnect that provider in canvas Settings while the Mac runtime is still available. Quit the Mac app before moving it to the Trash. For help removing remaining local data, contact hello@galta.art.

A task failed or stopped

Read the message in the canvas or the Mac app’s What happened detail. Fix the stated connection or provider issue before starting another task. A generation request with an uncertain submission is not automatically submitted again, because that could charge you twice.

If you need help, email hello@galta.art with your macOS, browser and Galta versions, the visible error, and the steps that led to it. Remove API keys and private canvas content from anything you send.
